The original 'Deposition' by Italian Renaissance artist Andrea Mantegna has been rediscovered in the Sanctuary of Pompeii and will be exhibited at the Vatican Museums in Rome. The artwork was found after a search led by a professor of Modern Art History and was connected to the essay by his mentor. The painting has undergone restoration to reveal the original brilliance of Mantegna's work. It is believed that the painting may have been commissioned by King Federico I of Naples and sent to the Church of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples. After its exhibition at the Vatican Museums, the painting will be part of the exhibits in the central museum of the shrine in Pompeii.
