New archaeological excavations at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem have revealed traces of an ancient garden, echoing a description in the Gospel of John. The presence of olive trees and grapevines was identified through archaeobotanical and pollen analysis. The excavations, which began in 2022, have uncovered pottery, lamps, and other everyday objects dating back to the Iron Age. The ongoing restoration project at the church has allowed for the archaeological excavations to take place.
