Retired Supreme Court president Aharon Barak fears that Israel is headed toward civil war. Tensions inside Israel have reached new peaks, with the official resumption of fighting by Israel and the opposition's belief that pacifying Religious Zionist Party leader Bezalel Smotrich and Otzma Yehudit leader Itamar Ben-Gvir is one of the reasons for the government's insistence on resuming the fighting. Other unresolved issues include Justice Minister Yariv Levin's push for judicial system reform, the prime minister's dismissal of Shin Bet head Ronen Bar, and the formation of a state commission of inquiry to investigate the events leading up to the Hamas massacre on October 7. There is also a growing suspicion that Netanyahu might try to prevent fair elections from taking place.
