Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa is under pressure to rein in Islamist militants and establish an inclusive government, as Western powers closely watch his actions. Three European envoys recently delivered a message to the Syrian government, stating that cracking down on militant fighters is their top priority and that international support for the new administration could be withdrawn if decisive action is not taken. However, Sharaa's own group, Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, only comprises around 20,000 fighters, making him reliant on other groups to combat the militants. Moving against these groups could lead to further conflict and instability in Syria. Sharaa must also contend with the influence of foreign powers such as the US, Russia, Israel, Turkiye, and Iran, who are all involved in the country's affairs.
