Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has chosen former Navy commander Eli Sharvit to be the next head of the Shin Bet, replacing Ronen Bar. Sharvit's appointment will be reviewed by a vetting committee before reaching the cabinet. The Prime Minister's Office stated that Sharvit is the right person to lead the Shin Bet and continue the organization's tradition. Sharvit previously participated in protests against the government's judicial overhaul plans.
