Lawmakers in Israel have passed the first reading of a bill that would require every government to formulate a national security strategy. The bipartisan bill, sponsored by former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot and Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Yuli Edelstein, would mandate the National Security Council to develop the strategy in consultation with relevant government agencies. The proposed document would identify security challenges, establish strategic goals, and assess the existing strategy.
