A coalition of Black and Jewish advocacy groups in New York, called UnMaskHateNY, has launched a six-figure ad campaign in support of state legislation that would increase penalties for crimes committed by masked offenders. The campaign aims to counter misinformation about the legislation, which critics have referred to as a 'mask ban.' The ad clarifies that the bill only prohibits wearing masks while engaging in intimidating, threatening, or harassing activity. The campaign, titled 'Fine, not fine,' showcases acceptable uses of masks and face coverings, such as for sports or medical purposes, while highlighting masks used for concealment during violent protests and vandalism as 'not fine.' The 30-second ad will be aired on cable TV and digital platforms.
