Amit Soussana, a survivor of Hamas captivity, has been recognized by the U.S. State Department for her bravery and awarded the International Woman of Courage Award. After enduring 55 days in captivity, Soussana went public with accounts of the sexual violence she experienced, raising global awareness of sexual violence as a weapon of war. She accepted the award on behalf of women who fought in the war and those who endured captivity, and continues to advocate for the release of hostages still held by Hamas.
