Hundreds of thousands of Gazans are fleeing as Israel seizes the city of Rafah in Gaza. Israeli forces have advanced into the ruins of the city, which had served as a refuge for those fleeing other areas. At least 97 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours, including 20 in an airstrike in Shejaia. Later, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 27 Palestinians, including women and children, inside a school building that served as a shelter for displaced families. Israel has not revealed its long-term aims for the security zone it is seizing, but there are concerns that it intends to depopulate the area indefinitely, leaving many people permanently homeless.
