Colombia has announced plans to purchase up to 24 fighter jets from Swedish company Saab to replace its aging Israeli aircraft. The maintenance of the Israeli-made Kfir fighter jets has become complicated after Colombia broke diplomatic ties with Israel. The new purchase plans were announced amid a lack of diplomatic relations with Israel, but the intention to replace the Kfir jets had already been cited by previous governments. The old planes will be replaced as the new ones arrive.
