How Yiddish writer Chaim Grade's last novel was rescued and wrestled into print

Chaim Grade's 'Sons and Daughters' is finally being published in English, 60 years after it was first serialized in Yiddish newspapers. The novel, which follows a rabbi and his children in 1930s Lithuania, is considered to be the last great Yiddish novel. Translator Rose Waldman worked on the manuscript for several years, piecing together the second volume from serialized chapters found in the Yiddish press. Despite being unfinished at Grade's death, the novel offers a poignant examination of Jewish identity and the challenges faced by a family in the 20th century.
