US says it will sign nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudis, no mention of tying deal to Israel normalization

The United States and Saudi Arabia will sign a preliminary agreement to cooperate on developing a civil nuclear industry in Saudi Arabia, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The agreement does not mention tying the deal to normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, as the previous US administration had sought. Further details on the energy cooperation will be provided later this year. The agreement is subject to the requirements of Section 123 of the US Atomic Energy Act of 1954, which includes non-proliferation criteria to prevent the development of nuclear arms.
