A portrait of a young Palestinian boy who lost both arms in an Israeli attack in Gaza has been named World Press Photo of the Year. The photo, taken by Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf, shows 9-year-old Mahmoud Ajjour with his arms missing just below each shoulder. The photo was chosen from over 59,000 entries submitted by photographers from 141 countries. The organization says that Ajjour was injured while fleeing an Israeli attack in March 2024.
