Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood and its role

Jordan has outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood and confiscated its assets after members were found to be linked to a sabotage plot. The Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in the 1920s and has widespread grassroots support in Jordan. The Islamic Action Front (IAF) is widely regarded as the Brotherhood's political wing and has been one of the biggest forces in parliament since 1992. The IAF took more seats than any other party in last year's parliamentary elections, but remained in opposition to the pro-Western government. The government says the courts will deliver the final verdict at the end of the trial on those implicated in the plot, and any organization promoting the Brotherhood's ideology will also be banned.
