Ibrahim Aqil, a senior Hezbollah commander, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Aqil was planning an assault on Israeli territory and was located underground beneath a residential building. He was second-in-command of Hezbollah's military operations and played a major role in the group's campaign in Syria. Aqil was involved in major attacks in the 1980s and was designated a global terrorist by the US State Department. Several Hezbollah commanders have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in recent months. The strike in Beirut also killed seven others and caused significant damage to Hezbollah.
