Irish premier Simon Harris is set to meet with Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas to discuss efforts for a ceasefire in the Middle East and the urgent need for aid to flow into Gaza. This will be the first meeting between the Taoiseach and Mr Abbas since Ireland recognized the state of Palestine in May. The Irish government recognized Palestine to support the hope of a two-state solution with Palestine and Israel living peacefully side-by-side. In addition to the meeting with Abbas, the Taoiseach will also hold bilateral meetings with King Abdullah of Jordan and the secretary-general of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
