The International March of the Living and the European March of the Living commemorated the National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews with two marches in Kaunas and Vilnius. Lithuanian Prime Minister Šimonytė emphasized the importance of remembering the past and preventing such atrocities from happening again. She also addressed the global rise of antisemitism and the need to fight against hate. The events honored the victims of the Ponary Massacre and the mass shootings that took place in Lithuania during the Holocaust, which resulted in the near-total destruction of Jewish communities in the country.
