AG, labor minister spat on daycare subsidies remain unpaid

Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Tzur accuses Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of undermining the democratic foundations of the Israeli government by ordering the labor ministry's legal advisor not to sign off on a government decision aimed at avoiding economic measures against military-age haredi yeshiva students. The government decision was to publish the criteria for citizens to receive daycare subsidies for toddlers aged 0-3, but the AG's office argued that military-aged haredim men who were now legally required to enlist could no longer be eligible for the subsidies. The exchange of letters between Ben-Tzur and the AG's office is the newest development in an ongoing conflict over haredi eligibility for subsidies.
