Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a 21-day ceasefire agreement along the Israeli-Lebanese border, stating that Israel never agreed to it, according to a senior diplomatic source. The US believed that Netanyahu would consent to the ceasefire, but Israel said there was no such expectation. The disagreement between the Biden administration and Israel has created a division over the best approach to address the presence of Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon. Israel believed its consent was contingent on the text of the agreement and wanted to proceed with the process without giving the impression of opposition. Israel has since worked to repair the misunderstanding with the US.
