Austria's far-right FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl aims to become the first far-right chancellor, invoking the legacy of Jörg Haider, despite opposition and coalition hurdles. Kickl hopes to achieve what Haider failed to achieve 25 years ago and become the first Austrian chancellor from his party. Haider's electoral achievement in 1999 was considered a European political earthquake, but his sudden death created an almost mythical aura. Kickl, who worked closely with Haider, has become the architect of the FPÖ's future electoral successes. However, forming a government may be an almost impossible mission for Kickl.
