UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon have come under deliberate attack, according to a spokesperson for Unifil. The attacks have been condemned by UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres as a violation of international humanitarian law. Downing Street has also expressed concern and called for an immediate ceasefire to protect peacekeepers and civilians. Unifil was established in 1978 to monitor the area after Israel's invasion of southern Lebanon, and Indonesia currently contributes the largest number of personnel to the force.
