Thousands of war-weary Palestinians have fled north Gaza after being trapped for days in the midst of an Israeli military assault. Online videos have shown displaced Gazans being checked by soldiers at a checkpoint before being allowed through. The ongoing Israeli assault, which began on October 6, has resulted in the deaths of at least 400 people, according to the Gaza civil defence agency. Many Palestinians in northern Gaza feel trapped and powerless amid the widespread destruction and soaring deaths. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees estimates that about 400,000 people remain in Gaza's north.
