Blinken Meets With Netanyahu in the Latest U.S. Push for a Cease-fire in Gaza

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to discuss hopes for a cease-fire in Gaza following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. The prospects for a truce remain remote as Israel prepares for a counterstrike on Iran. Blinken also discussed the future of Gaza, Israel's campaign in Lebanon, and the conflict with Iran. Israeli strikes against Hezbollah will continue until Israel's northern communities are safe and Hezbollah forces withdraw from southern Lebanon. The war in Gaza has defied the Biden administration's efforts to end it, escalating into a war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and direct strikes by Iran against Israeli territory.
