Liberal Jewish groups denounce election 'xenophobia' towards immigrants

An array of liberal-leaning Jewish groups, including the rabbinic associations of American Judaism's two largest denominations, joined 500 Jewish clergy in denouncing 'an election season defined by xenophobia, fear, and lies.' The statement released by HIAS, the lead Jewish immigration advocacy group, appeared to be a thinly-veiled reference to Donald Trump's rhetoric on immigration. Both Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, have made a crackdown on illegal immigration a centerpiece of their campaign. The statement called on all candidates to reject the politics of hatred and fear and to advocate for the rights and safety of refugees and asylum seekers.
