Mideast Peace Talks to Resume, but No Sign Yet That Hamas Will Take Part

Israeli and American negotiators are scheduled to return to Qatar over the weekend in an effort to revive cease-fire talks between Israel and Hamas, but there is uncertainty about whether Hamas might soon rejoin the talks. The announcement came amid new Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said that they haven't determined whether Hamas is prepared to engage and questioned if Hamas is serious about negotiations. The United States announced an additional $135 million in humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and the region. The situation in Gaza is urgent with winter approaching and a humanitarian crisis ongoing.
