Safeya Binzagr, Pioneering Saudi Artist, Dies at 84

Safeya Binzagr, a pioneering Saudi artist, has died at the age of 84. Binzagr was the first woman to publicly exhibit her art in Saudi Arabia in 1968, despite not being able to attend the event due to restrictions on women appearing in public. She focused on depicting traditional Saudi life and women's roles in her paintings, challenging Western stereotypes. Binzagr opened one of the first art museums in the country and dedicated herself to preserving Saudi heritage through art. Her work has gained significance in today's Saudi Arabia, where women have more freedoms to express themselves artistically.
