Hamas has rejected an Israeli offer of safe passage out of the Gaza Strip in exchange for laying down its arms and releasing hostages. The offer was made by Mossad chief David Barnea during a meeting with Egyptian officials. Hamas quickly turned down the proposal, stating that it was capable of continuing the war for months or years. According to a Hamas official, an end to the 'genocide' in the northern part of the Gaza Strip is a prerequisite to any negotiations. Despite the rejection, Barnea's efforts in securing a hostage deal are ongoing, and he is set to join high-level negotiations in Qatar.
