Egyptian president proposes new cease-fire truce as CIA chief in Mideast for talks

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is proposing a two-day cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in order to secure the release of hostages. The proposal comes as top international talks on the conflict take place in Doha, Qatar. The exact number of hostages and Palestinian prisoners involved remains unclear. The proposal suggests that if a temporary truce is agreed upon, talks on a permanent cease-fire should continue 10 days later. The focus of the Doha meeting involving the heads of the U.S. and Israeli spy agencies was to discuss plans for a short-term cease-fire in Gaza that would last less than a month.
