Switzerland's 'burqa ban' will be implemented from January 1, 2025, according to the government. The ban, which was narrowly passed in a 2021 referendum, prohibits facial coverings in public spaces. Violators may face a fine of up to 1,000 Swiss francs ($1,144). The ban does not apply to planes, diplomatic premises, or places of worship. Facial coverings will still be allowed for health and safety reasons, native customs, weather conditions, artistic and entertainment purposes, and advertising.
