France is considering imposing new sanctions on those involved in the expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. Barrot stated that France has been instrumental in establishing the first sanction regime at the European level targeting individuals or entities involved in settlement activities. He also reaffirmed France's commitment to a two-state solution and warned that settlement activities threaten the prospects of lasting peace between Israel and Palestine. Barrot made these remarks during a visit to the West Bank, where he inspected the aftermath of an attack by Israeli settlers on the town of Al-Bireh.
