US President-elect Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and advised him not to escalate the war in Ukraine, reminding him of Washington's military presence in Europe. Trump had also spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Putin has set out his terms for an end to the war, including Ukraine dropping its NATO ambitions and withdrawing troops from claimed territories. Ukraine rejected this and has requested additional military support from the West.
