Dr. Maya Sion-Tzidkiyahu, director of Mitvim's Israel-Europe Relations Program, explains that the recent violent attacks on Israeli fans in Amsterdam were motivated by anti-Israelism and anti-Zionism, rather than anti-Semitism. She emphasizes the need for Israelis to understand how they are perceived in Europe and warns that labeling all criticism as anti-Semitism endangers European Jews. Sion-Tzidkiyahu also notes that pro-Palestinian protests in Europe are likely to continue as long as conflicts in the Gaza Strip and the North persist. She highlights the increase in anti-Semitic attacks on Jews in Europe since the war in Gaza and emphasizes the need to address the rise of anti-Semitism.
