On November 12, 2014, the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission's lander Philae made history by landing on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, becoming the first man-made object to land on a comet. Despite some technical issues, Philae managed to collect valuable data before its batteries ran out. The Rosetta spacecraft continued to orbit the comet and gather information until it was intentionally crash-landed in September 2016. The data collected by Philae and Rosetta has provided new insights into comets and the formation of the solar system.
