The length of service for reservists in the IDF has increased, with combat fighters serving around 136 days per year during wartime. Reservist commanders are serving even longer, with an average of 168 days per year. The government has been unable to pass legislation to officially increase service length for mandatory service soldiers from 32 to 36 months. The IDF is facing a shortage of soldiers and needs at least 7,000 new soldiers to replace those lost in the war. The IDF has seen a 16% increase in draft numbers nationally, and the number of women in combat roles has also increased.
