Lebanon's largest Christian party leader, Samir Geagea, has called on Hezbollah to relinquish its weapons to end the conflict with Israel and spare Lebanon further destruction. Geagea, who is Hezbollah's political opponent, believes that the destruction caused by the war is not worth the political gains that Israel may achieve. He urges Hezbollah and the Lebanese state to implement local accords and international resolutions to disband armed factions outside of state control. Israel has insisted on carrying out strikes against Hezbollah threats even if a ceasefire is agreed, which Geagea opposes. Despite his opposition to Hezbollah, Geagea does not support the Lebanese army forcefully disarming the group.
