Yasser Arafat's decisions during his time as leader of the Palestinian Authority have contributed to the failure of the Palestinian cause in the last two decades. Arafat's activism led to the founding of the Fatah movement and the formation of the Palestinian Authority in 1994. However, his attempts to destabilize Jordan and Lebanon and his choice of war over state-building ultimately led to disaster for the Palestinians. Arafat's failure to fulfill the vision for a Palestinian state in the 1990s has allowed Hamas to become a driving force and lead the Palestinians to further turmoil.
