The global measles outbreak continues to surge, with 10.3 million reported cases in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year. Insufficient vaccination coverage is directly linked to this rise, as over 22 million children missed their first dose of the measles vaccine. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that at least 95% coverage with two doses is necessary to prevent outbreaks and protect populations. In 2023, 57 countries experienced large measles outbreaks or disruptions in prevention efforts, with Africa being particularly affected. Despite a slight reduction in mortality rates, measles claimed 107,500 lives, mostly children under the age of five. Israel has also seen a rise in measles cases, especially among unvaccinated populations.
