Jessica Tisch appointed new NYPD commissioner

Jessica Tisch, a longtime New York City public servant, has been appointed as the commissioner of the NYPD, becoming the second woman to head the city's police department. Tisch, who comes from a prominent Jewish family, has previously served as the NYPD's deputy commissioner for information and the city's sanitation commissioner. In her new role, Tisch aims to keep New York safe, fight crime and disorder, enhance counterterrorism abilities, and implement police technology. Mayor Eric Adams praised Tisch as a strong and battle-tested leader. The NYPD has approximately 36,000 officers and a budget of $5.8 billion.
