Antisemitic references have been removed from an A-level history textbook published by Oxford University Press (OUP) after a complaint was made by the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BoD). The textbook included a section on the Jewish pogroms of 1881-84, which explained the violence against Jews as being motivated by 'money-lending and personal riches' and blamed antisemitism on 'the teachings of the Orthodox Church.' OUP revised the textbook in collaboration with University College London's Centre for Holocaust Education, removing the antisemitic references and providing a more accurate explanation of the pogroms. The BoD praised OUP for modifying the material.
