European leaders continue to dismiss, downplay, or reframe violence against Jews, demonstrating an inability to confront antisemitism and intolerance. Recent incidents in Amsterdam and Berlin highlight this troubling trend. Amsterdam's mayor reframed violent attacks against Israeli soccer fans as mere 'hit-and-runs' to avoid alienating Muslim residents. In Berlin, the police chief advised Jews and LGBTQ+ individuals to hide their identities in certain neighborhoods with large Arab populations. The reluctance to label these incidents for what they are signals to attackers that their actions will be excused or ignored. European leaders must learn to call out antisemitism and intolerance and fight them with moral courage.
