Around 500 people attended a memorial service in Edinburgh to celebrate the life of former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond. Salmond, who was described as an 'inspiration' and a 'political genius', had a commitment to the cause of Scottish independence. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon did not attend the service, as a rift had developed between the two during her term as SNP leader. The Proclaimers performed at the service, singing a pro-independence song.
