Syria's second-largest city, Aleppo, has fallen from government control for the first time since the country's conflict began over a decade ago, according to a war monitor. Rebel forces, including the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, have made significant advances in the city, with the exception of Kurdish-controlled neighborhoods. The rebel offensive comes after a ceasefire was implemented in neighboring Lebanon, following two months of intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The Syrian government, supported by Russian air power, had previously recaptured rebel-held areas of Aleppo in 2016.
