Militants, including Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), have taken control of most of Aleppo city and government centers, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Russian warplanes have launched airstrikes on parts of Aleppo city for the first time since 2016. Syrian authorities have closed Aleppo airport and all roads leading into the city. Opposition fighters, led by HTS, have reached the heart of Aleppo after being forced out nearly a decade ago. Russia has promised to provide extra military aid to Damascus to counter the militants, with new hardware expected to arrive in the next 72 hours.
