The United Nations has appealed for $47 billion in aid for 2025 to help around 190 million people facing conflict and starvation. The UN hopes to reach people in 32 countries next year, including those in war-torn Sudan, Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine. The appeal is the fourth largest in the history of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), but it leaves out 115 million people whose needs cannot be funded. The UN's 2024 appeal is only 43% funded, with the US being the top donor, contributing over $10 billion. Aid workers have had to make tough choices, cutting food assistance in Syria and water services in Yemen.
