McSweeney travelled to Florida to meet Susie Wiles, the political strategist who is set to be named the president's chief of staff, and discussed policies with congressman Mike Waltz, who has been named as Mr Trump's next national security adviser. The trip suggests concern within the UK government about their relationship with the US and a focus on building bridges with the incoming president. The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, also discussed the possibility of visiting the US next February during a phone call with Mr Trump.
