The olive rush in Rajasthan, India has dried up as many farmers have abandoned their olive plantations due to crop failures and lack of government support. In 2014, the government promoted olive cultivation in the desert state, leading to a significant increase in acreage. However, half of the 100 olive farmers have now given up on the crop. The government's experiment with the Mediterranean fruit and its early bumper crops did not live up to expectations, leaving farmers disappointed. The Olive Growers Welfare Organisation is urging the government to commission studies and hire experts to support farmers.
