Archaeologists and students in Israel have discovered a treasure trove of 160 ancient coins during an excavation in the Jordan Valley. The coins, dating back to the Hellenistic period, depict Alexander Jannaeus, a Jewish leader of the Hasmonean dynasty. The cache, believed to be the largest of its kind found in Israel, contains coins written in both Aramaic and Greek. The coins were found in a room that was likely used as a kitchen in a road station along the main road leading to the fortress of Sartaba. The discovery holds special significance during the difficult times faced by the people of Israel.
