Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is on trial for alleged election funding from late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The investigation began in 2013 after Gaddafi's son accused Sarkozy of taking millions for campaign funding. Twelve others are also standing trial, all denying the charges. Sarkozy's wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, was charged last year but denies hiding evidence. Sarkozy has faced other criminal investigations and has been found guilty of overspending on his re-election campaign and attempting to bribe a judge.
