A Byzantine-era monastery from the 5th-6th centuries CE has been uncovered near Kiryat Gat, Israel. The monastery features a colorful mosaic floor and a Greek inscription and is considered the largest and most significant site from the Roman and Byzantine periods in the region. Other discoveries during the excavation include a sophisticated winepress, evidence of local pottery production, and over ten buildings. The mosaic floor will be relocated to an open area in the city for public access.
