The Biden administration believes that if the Lebanese Army continues its deployment in southern Lebanon, there will be no reason for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to remain there or extend the ceasefire. US special envoy Amos Hochstein concluded a visit to Lebanon and met with senior Lebanese officials. The Lebanese Army has accelerated its deployment in southern Lebanon, specifically in areas south of the Litani River. Israeli officials have warned that if the Lebanese deployment continues, Israel will have to stay in southern Lebanon for another 30 to 60 days. The Biden administration has conveyed a message to Israeli officials emphasizing the importance of living up to commitments.
